Job Title: Senior Accounting Clerk

Salary: Up to $55,000 per year
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Clerk to join our team in Torrance. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks related to accounts receivable, collections, and general accounting activities. You will work closely with customers to resolve issues and apply accounting principles to maintain accurate financial records and reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle day-to-day tasks related to accounts receivable, collections, and general accounting activities.
- Communicate with customers to ensure timely payments and address any questions or concerns regarding their accounts.
- Use company systems like Oracle to maintain accurate financial records, reports, and invoices.
- Process custom invoices, identify and correct errors, and follow established timelines for invoicing and collections.
- Apply cash payments to accounts and manage overdue balances, particularly those past 30 days.
- Analyze and interpret various financial reports, including departmental summaries, customer reports, and bank transactions.
- Manage electronic invoicing and deposits, ensuring that invoices are submitted through customer-specific online platforms when required.
- Handle bad debt write-offs and understand their impact on financial statements.
- Review and adjust customer credit limits based on their credit profiles, placing customers with overdue payments on hold until payment is made.
- Ensure new customers are correctly set up in the Oracle system according to company policies.
- Record and reconcile internal transactions, including foreign exchange conversions.
- Enter accounting data into the Oracle system, ensuring that accounts are accurately maintained and balanced.
- Prepare checks for deposit, ensuring proper handling and recording of transactions.
- Assist with generating daily, monthly, and annual accounting reports and ensure they are kept up-to-date.
- Help with the month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations and adjustments.
- Address customer inquiries regarding invoices and provide necessary backup documentation.
- Provide general support for the accounting department as needed.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with office tasks such as filing, typing, mailing, photocopying, and faxing.
- Respond to customer and vendor inquiries regarding accounting issues via phone or email.
- Maintain and update department records and files as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Continuously seek ways to improve accounting processes and workflows.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Participate in monthly and annual account reconciliations.
- Support the team during month-end and year-end closings.
- Prepare and compile reports for management, including financial data and statistics.
- Work as a collaborative team member to achieve departmental goals.
- Take on additional tasks and projects as assigned by management.
- Cross-train with other accounting clerks to provide support in their absence or assist with workload overflow.
- Occasionally drive to the bank to handle company transactions such as deposits or wire transfers.
Qualifications:
Education:
- An Associate’s degree in Accounting is preferred, but not required.
- High school diploma with relevant experience or formal training in basic accounting principles is acceptable.
Experience:
- A minimum of five years of experience in accounts receivable or related accounting roles.
- Proficiency with accounting software and computerized financial reporting tools.
- Experience with Oracle software is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting-related situations in a clear and understandable way.
- Ability to perform calculations related to discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks accurately.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues across departments.
- Basic understanding of accounting processes, methodologies, and concepts.
- Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
