The OLS Energy Cogen Plant, located in Chino, California, is a 27 MW natural gas-fired power plant. It operates using a General Electric LM2500 combined cycle cogeneration configuration, which enhances efficiency by simultaneously generating electricity and thermal energy. This setup allows the facility to provide reliable power while maximizing fuel utilization and minimizing environmental impact.
Opportunity Summary
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician operates, maintains, and repairs stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as gas turbines, boilers, steam turbines, diesel engines, electrical generators, steam generators, gas compressors, air compressors, motors, and pumps to generate electrical power and steam for industrial processes by performing the following duties.
Primary Functions
Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician will include the following primary functions:
- Responsible for the start-up, shutdown, and normal operation of power plant systems to ensure reliable performance. Reads meters, gauges, and automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. Records data such as temperatures, pressures, fluid levels, and hours of operation.
- Operates manual and automatic controls to maintain optimal equipment performance, switch to backup systems, or shut down equipment as required. Controls fire protection equipment, HVAC components, wastewater and drainage systems, switchgear circuit breakers, chemical sampling and feed systems, water treatment subsystems, and fuel systems.
- Performs visual and auditory inspections at scheduled intervals to detect malfunctions or the need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication. Tightens fittings, replaces valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges, and cleans or replaces other components as needed. Oils and lubricates equipment.
- Records maintenance actions on work order forms and prepares clear, understandable work orders for preventive and corrective maintenance. Opens and closes valves and circuit breakers to ensure proper system operation, mechanical isolation, and electrical isolation.
- Disassembles devices to access and replace defective parts. Inspects, adjusts, or replaces functional and structural components, ensuring proper fit and function. Examines parts for defects, measures dimensional changes, and operates tools such as drill presses and grinders to make and repair components.
- Uses welding and cutting equipment for metal fabrication and repairs. Initiates purchase orders for required parts. Reads and understands technical manuals, piping, and instrumentation diagrams to perform maintenance effectively.
- Conducts preventive and corrective maintenance following technical manuals and plant procedures while complying with safety and regulatory guidelines. Tracks consumable parts, reorders as needed, and maintains all shop tools and welding equipment.
- Maintains feedwater pumps, gas compressors, air compressors, the maintenance shop, boiler lower levels, and other plant areas. Performs daily plant maintenance inspections to ensure operational efficiency.
- Complete additional tasks assigned by the Plant Manager, including special projects and maintenance duties.

Working Relationships
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician reports to the Plant Manager and works closely with other plant personnel to ensure smooth operations and effective communication across shifts.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position follows a day-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with eight-hour workdays. Extended working hours, varied shifts, and weekend or holiday work may be required based on schedules, workload, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts will also be necessary.
Compensation
The initial starting compensation will range from $43 to $56 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus.
Job Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or technical certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience in plant operations, maintenance, and repair may substitute for formal education.
- Advanced training or certifications in safety regulations, CMMS, or specialized equipment are beneficial.
- Demonstrated experience in operating and maintaining power generation equipment, including turbines, generators, and related systems in a gas turbine power generation facility.
- Strong skills in equipment monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair within a power plant environment, including proficiency in using meters, gauges, and automatic recording devices.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical manuals and facility operating procedures to start, stop, adjust, and modify equipment operations within recommended parameters.
- Proficiency in using CMMS for maintenance planning, work order management, and adherence to maintenance strategies.
- Competence in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and technical equipment, including writing, and submitting work orders and maintaining detailed records.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations, with experience in ensuring compliance and managing safety programs during operational shifts.
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
