Job Title: Lead Welder
Location: Santa Ana, CA
Pay Rate: $30 per hour
Work Hours: 5:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Lead Welder to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the welding process for aluminum and stainless steel sheet metal fabrication parts while ensuring the quality and safety of work performed. The ideal candidate will have strong MIG and TIG welding experience, with a background in leading a team in a manufacturing environment. This position requires the ability to mentor and train others while ensuring projects meet the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team of welders in the MIG and TIG welding of aluminum and stainless steel sheet metal fabrication parts.
- Ensure that quality standards are consistently met by reviewing and inspecting welded parts.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical documents to guide the team in their tasks.
- Train and mentor team members on proper welding techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures.
- Ensure project deadlines are met while maintaining a high level of productivity and quality.
- Perform complex welding projects as needed, ensuring precision and quality workmanship.
- Monitor and maintain equipment in good working condition, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Update travelers and input required data into the job tracking system.
- Lead team meetings to discuss daily objectives, goals, and any issues that arise.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring safety standards are followed and the workplace remains free from hazards.
- Oversee the inspection process, identifying parts for quality control checks.
- Utilize measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions and accuracy of welded parts.
- Perform any physical tasks related to welding, such as lifting, carrying, bending, squatting, or twisting, as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 5 years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment, with proven MIG and TIG welding expertise.
- Strong knowledge of aluminum and stainless steel welding techniques.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical specifications.
- Experience with measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers) to ensure accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to give clear instructions and feedback.
- Ability to lead complex welding projects and problem-solve as challenges arise.
- Experience with Lean, 5S, or Six Sigma principles or equivalent training is a plus.
- Ability to train and develop team members to improve their skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, carry parts (up to 25 lbs.) for short distances (5 ft), and handle materials when needed.
- Standing for prolonged periods (approximately 70% of the time).
- Walking (around 10% of the time) and performing tasks requiring physical movement (kneeling, squatting, twisting, etc.) as necessary (about 20% of the time).
