Position Description *Updated to include new hire incentives ABOUT THE COURT Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 36 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,800 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $1 billion.
Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,752 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties. ABOUT THE POSITION Court Reporters are responsible for providing accurate verbatim reporting of proceedings in all required or requested court hearings, which include civil, criminal, juvenile, and grand jury. Reporters are responsible for providing real-time reporting services to judicial officers, preparing transcripts in accordance with applicable Government Codes, Rules of Court, and Statues, and providing read back upon request.

SALARY Full-time: $10,479.82 - $10,767.91 Monthly Part-time 3/5: $6,287.89 - $6,460.75 Monthly Daily as needed: $481.83 - $495.08 Full Day $240.92 - $247.54 Half Day Applicants with courtroom experience may be eligible for salary negotiation. Court reporters learn about the Court's various areas of litigation, transcript preparation, billing procedures, and customer interactions.
90-day real-time reporting acclimation period affording the court reporter the opportunity to work in different areas of litigation and build litigation specific dictionaries. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS To qualify, you must meet the following selection requirements at the time of application: A current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license issued by the Court Reporters Board of California Real-time reporting capability* Computer-aided transcription (CAT) capability Paperless writer equipped with 1 form of removable memory in addition to internal memory -OR- voice writing equipment *Court Reporters are required to provide real-time reporting to Judicial Officers after an optional 90-day acclimation period. Note: A valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation is required to carry out job-related essential functions.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualification. This is not a mandatory requirement: Certified Real-time Reporter (CRR) Certification EXAMINATION INFORMATION Qualifying evaluation of certification and selection requirements, based upon submitted application materials. WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT Applicants who meet the selection requirements will be placed on an eligible list which will remain valid for up to one year and may be invited to participate in an oral interview.
This will include verification of the equipment requirements and of real-time capability, and a transcription and readback exercise to demonstrate knowledge, skills, abilities, and readiness for the position.
